AFCOMAP National Conference and Awards Banquet

The Bessie Coleman Chapter is proud to host this year's National AFCOMAP Banquet. This year's event takes place 21 -23 Sept at the Bolling AFB club, and is held in conjunction with the AFA Convention held 24-26 Sept. In conjunction with the annual Awards Banquet, the Conference will feature:

Please look under the "About Us" section for an application. 2006 grads are reminded they can join the WOL for free right now! The rest of you Lts need only pay $25 in dues. For what we do - Pathfinder Seminars, Pathfinder Awards, this site, building mentor and professional development programs, and planning reunions - that is a bargain. We really need you all to send in applications quickly so we can budget properly.

What do you put in the "To Block" when sending a private message? Also where on the site is user guide to answer such questions or show you tips on using the site. I looked at quite a few places, but I am not the smartest dude/dudedet on the block.

I also want to provide a membership application even if we are not ready to process an online application. We may need to rely on US mail for a while longer.

Class Reps - Former Cadet WLC Presidents - Where are you??????

We need to find ways to energize our class reps. Class reps are at the core of communication and operation. I hope we can at least get ideas from each Academy class cadet WLC President. That may be a good start for the classes who have little or no participation. It will certainly help as a plan a reunion. Anybody with contact information for a past WLC cadet president? Jim McReynolds, '77, is the Membership Committee Chairperson. He is working vey hard to reach out to each class. In fact we have decade reps too since some of the early classes have very grads. Help us if you can.

MEMBERSHIP -- Not for Every Grad and Thats OK

We have over 1700 African-American grads out there. How many can we really expect to join USAFA WOL Alumni? Some grads avoided the cadet WLC while at the Academy. It was a personal choice and there was no right or wrong decision about joining. The same holds true today although I think the core objectives of this alumni group makes it lots easier to support. I mean with more than just moral support. I mean JOINING. Also, our grads are doing amazing things. Many are already involved in service organizations and are just tapped out. Be careful not to judge. If a grad has not or chooses not to join WOL, respect their choice.

Apathy ----- Surely not a Grad Thing!!!!! We are Professionals Right???

I struggle with a number of grads with whom I have talked about the great benefits of USAFA WOL Alumni (to young people shooting for appointments, cadets, active duty, and those in transition). Most speak well of what we can do but still only a few actually take the time to join officially. They say they will but it takes 5-6 emails and phone calls to get them moving. In the mean time we have to ask for 200% out of the folks we have to make up for the lack of members.

How do we get "comfortable" grads to actually join, pay dues, and volunteer for committee work. We need more workers to help with , membership, communication (web maintenance/updates), budget planning, reunion planning, and more.
