SUPER REUNION for All Service Academies in Feb 2009

We are in the initial planning stages for the 1st ever super reunion of all black service academy graduates. USAFA WOL will take the lead in planning. We have made contact with Naval Academy graduates (The El Dorado Society)and they are excited. We are reaching out to West Point, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marine grads.

Expect a conference call in Jan 2008. The call in numbers will be posted on this site and blast emailed. Our goal is to have a wide cross section of classes represented on the planning team. Since this is such a huge endeavor and we are reaching out to all the academies, we need STRONG grads on this planning team.

For those who were curious how I built the Pathfinder menu, I used an unordered list:

Bio Posting (was "Really Lame Blog Post")

This isn't much of a blog post- I'm simply uploading the bios for people who don't have one available online. If you would like your bio linked to your online user account, simply post it in your blog as an attachment. Now right-click on that blog post title and select "copy shortcut." Then, edit your profile and where it says "Resume Link" paste the link in. Now, people can go to your resume post. YOu can update your resume simply by deleting the attachment (don't delete the whole message- just the attachment) and posting a new version of your resume.

Yes, as webmaster I could have simply uploaded the file directly, but then you wouldn't have learned how to do it when I'm TDY. Oh, and if you post an updated version of your bio, then I will change the link and remove the old one from this list.

It's a shame that this is still true, but it is...click "A Girl Like Me" or "read more" to watch the video

I Wrote A Book

I can't update our website while traveling, but I CAN write :-)...
For the religious among us, check out www.janinewiggins.com for info on my writing. You can download a free exceprt... Don't order through the site, because you won't get my ring-knocker discount. The book will be ready next month (Feb) and if you want to pre-order, you can do so at the below links.

Get Ready for a Busy Start to 2008

We need a maximum effort in January to get in as many membership applications and dues as possible. That will help us fine tune our budget and planning for the remainder of 2008 and 2009. Help us by taking care of WOL applications and dues as quickly as you can. You can download an application from this site or email Jim McReynolds at jcmcreynolds@cox.net. Emailing Jim gives us an updated email address. Make that your first option.

You can also expect an open conference call in January for any member interested in helping with the "2009 SUPER REUNION". This reunion will involve Navy, West Point, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marine grads. Initial plans are for Miami in Feb (Black History month) 2009. That may change but the planning team will make that decision.

News Item - First Black West Point Commander Dies in Iraq - Lt Emily Perez

First Black West Point Commander Dies In Iraq Sept. 27, 2006 - The nation is mourning the death of Lt Emily Perez, 23, the first Black woman to serve as corps commander sergeant major at West Point. Perez, who graduated in the top 10 percent of her class, out-ran many men, directed a gospel choir, read the Bible every day. She also headed a weekly convoy as it rolled down treacherous roads, pocked with bombs and bullets near Najaf, Iraq. As platoon leader, she insisted on leading her troops from the front. She died Sept. 12 when a bomb detonated near her Humvee in Kifl, south of Baghdad. Shortly before shipping out to Iraq with the 204th Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, she flew cross-country to be a bone marrow donor for a stranger who was a match.

WOL Secretary Needed

We need a secretary. Jim McReynolds, '77, moved from secretary to membership chairperson after Nelson English, '81, stepped down. The job is more about being accountable and dependable at this point. Call me (Rich Hall)at 954-559-8039 if you are a voulnteer. Help find a volunteer if the job is not right for you.
